Back to School, Back to Smiles: A Busy Summer at Commonwealth Pediatric Dentistry

As summer winds down and backpacks, lunchboxes, and fresh notebooks take over the kitchen table, we’re reflecting on what has been a busy, exciting season here at Commonwealth Pediatric Dentistry.

Between growing our team, updating our offices, and welcoming families for their summer checkups, we’ve been working hard to make your child’s dental care even more convenient and comfortable.

Growing in Midlothian
We're seeking to grow our Midlothian office! With so many wonderful families trusting us with their children’s smiles, and additional office space opening up, we’re looking to expand. This would mean more appointment availability, shorter wait times, and the same gentle, personalized care you’ve come to expect from Dr. Drew Zima and our staff. Stay tuned for more details. You can learn more about our Midlothian office here.

A Fresh Start in Farmville
We’ve officially moved our Farmville office — and we couldn’t be happier about the new space! There’s plenty to smile about at our new location:

✅ Convenient spot on West 3rd Street
✅ Just 2 miles from our old office
✅ Beautiful views of the lake that make dental visits just a little more relaxing

Our goal was to create a space that feels bright, cheerful, and is easy to reach — and we think we’ve nailed it. You can get directions and see more about the new office here.

Reviews are already coming in:

"We've been going here for 3 years and have been very happy. My older two are autistic and all the staff members have been accommodating and kind. It's nice seeing the same faces every time and it's reassuring to know that they can provide other care as needed. Also love the new building!"

Back-to-School = Time to Check Your Dental Calendar
The back-to-school season is about more than shopping for supplies and finding the perfect first-day outfit. It’s also the ideal time to get your family’s schedule in order. Between sports, after-school activities, and homework, finding time for dental appointments can get tricky fast.

We recommend taking a few minutes now to:
  • Schedule your child’s first or next pediatric dental visit if it’s been more than six months since their last checkup.
  • Double-check any upcoming appointments to make sure they still work with your child’s new school and activity schedule.
  • Consider planning ahead for holiday breaks or teacher workdays, which are often easier times to fit in dental visits without missing school.

Routine checkups are more than just a “clean and polish” — they’re a chance to catch small issues early, prevent dental discomfort, and keep your child’s smile healthy all year long.

Healthy Smiles Start the School Year Strong
There’s nothing like starting a new school year with a confident, cavity-free smile. Beyond the dentist’s chair, here are a few ways to keep your child’s oral health on track during the school year:
  • Pack water instead of sugary drinks in their lunchbox.
  • Include crunchy fruits and vegetables that help clean teeth naturally.
  • Remind kids to brush twice a day and floss once a day — even on busy mornings.
  • If your child plays sports, make sure they have a properly fitted mouthguard.

From our growing Midlothian location to our beautiful new Farmville office, we’re excited for what’s ahead — and grateful to be part of your child’s healthy start to the school year. Here’s to a happy, healthy, and smile-filled fall!
